The White River Craft Center Weaving Studio has been in operation since 2002 and during this time many students have learned to weave. Yarn, looms and weaving equipment hve been generously donated to the studio. We have five table looms of varying weaving widths, four 4-shaft floor looms and three 8-shaft floor looms of varying weaving widths. We also have a 4-shaft floor loom with a 12 foot wide weaving width.

Classes in beginning weaving, frame loom weaving, inkle loom weaving, warping review, color, selvedges, drafting, and an intermediate block weave class are offered throught out the year. A few looms are set up for anyone to come and weave which is a great resoure for those wanting to learn weaving and to spend time at this ancient craft. If you are interested in weaving on a loom in the studio or would like to take a class, please contact the Craft Center at 728-8912.
The Weaving Studio will be open during the Vermont Open Studio Weekend, May 29 & 30th from 10a.m. – 5 p.m. Please come and visit!

Kimball House Weaving Update for March 2012

There has been a lot of activity in the Weaving Studio lately. Four students just finished a weaving class where beautiful long samplers of multiple colors were woven in more than thirty different weave structures. Projects which are still being woven consist of table runners, napkins and a scarf by three of the students. A fourth students is busy working on several block weave structures such as Huck Lace, Summer and Winter, M’s & O’s, Overshot, Crackle and Monk’s Belt. It is always exciting to see the joy on student’s faces when they have completed new projects and learn a new and complicated skill.
Two High School Seniors have woven samplers, and are working on blankets to complete their Senior Projects. They have learned the entire weaving process and are continuing to weave other practical items.

New at the Weaving Studio is "Friday Weaving". The studio is open from 9a.m. to 4p.m. in order to allow students and interested people to weave in a studio that has all the equipment, yarns and looms that you need. An experienced weaver will be available to answer questions and provide guidance. Any one can pay $10 per day for the use of the equipment to learn to throw the shuttle or weave off a project that is already set up on a loom. At the moment there is a loom set up with a lace weave to make a hand towel or placemat and another loom set up to weave mug rugs (known as coasters for hot or cold drinks). The Friday fee may be waived if the weaver is willing to weave something for the Craft Center that is of good enough quality for use or sale by the Craft Center. If the weaver would like to keep the project, there will also be a modest fee for yarn used based on weight. A few looms are available to rent. Table looms may be rented for $10 per month and floor looms may be rented for $15 per month.

At least once a month there will be a class of interest for which registration will be required. See information below. Potential students may also request specific topics. Future classes will include but not be limited to Drafting and specific weave structures. Keep an eye out for classes that may spontaneously arise and for classes beyond March.
